Welcome to the Internship section of the ISCB-Student Council website, coordinated by the Education and Internship Committee. As a student-managed body, we understand it is crucial to get the proper guidance and a good mentor during the early years of training. We aim to address these challenges by organizing internships for undergraduates and graduate students of developing nations in collaboration with leading international research labs and institutions working in the field of computational biology.
About the Program
Established in 2009, the Internship Program aims to address the disparity in research opportunities between developing and developed nations. By facilitating these international experiences, we help:
- Students gain exposure to cutting-edge research techniques and equipment
- Host labs benefit from diverse perspectives and potential new collaborations
- The computational biology community grow more equitable and inclusive worldwide
Since its inception, the program has successfully placed students from developing countries, including India, Brazil and Kenya, in prestigious research labs across developed countries in Europe and Australia. For an overview of our internship program, have a look at the publication summarising the program work and its impact (DOI: 10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005802). ISCB supports the internship program through the Anna Tramontano Fellowship Fund (visit the page to learn more about how to contribute to this).
Who benefits from the Program?
Students and Early Career Researchers
- Access to specialized training unavailable at home institutions
- Exposure to current research trends and state-of-the-art facilities
- Networking opportunities with international researchers
- Development of transferable skills to share with peers
Host Labs
- Diverse perspectives that enrich the research environment
- Cultural and scientific exchange
- Potential for new research collaborations
- Opportunity to contribute to global capacity building in computational biology
- Pre-screened candidates that match your requirements
Kindly share your interest in participating or contributing to this program through the form provided below!
How It Works
- Host labs provide project details, requirements, and available support
- The Education and Internships Committee (EIC) advertises the position
- Students apply to their position of interest by submitting applications as mentioned in the call
- The EIC reviews applications and forwards those that meet the criteria mentioned in the call to host labs
- Host labs interview and select their preferred candidate
- The selected intern coordinates logistics with assistance from the host lab
