About the Travel Fellowships [Top]
The European Bioinformatics Institute and the
ISCB Student Council have teamed up to bring more undergraduate
and master's students to the 3rd ISCB Student Council Symposium and ISMB/ECCB 2007.
To achieve this goal we are providing five travel fellowships to undergraduate and master's students from Europe.
The successful applicants will receive £400 to cover travel expenses to Vienna, accommodation for the
duration of ISMB/ECCB 2007 as well as registration for the ISCB Student Council Symposium.
ISMB/ECCB 2007 registration fees are not
covered and will have to be paid for by the successful applicants.
Conditions for Eligibility [Top]
Applicants must be the single first and presenting author of an accepted abstract at the ISCB Student
Council Symposium. Applications have to be submitted before acceptance notification is received, however,
applications from rejected authors cannot be considered for funding.
Multiple authors applying with the same abstract will not be considered. Only one abstract per applicant.
Applicants must be registered in an undergraduate or masters program (not a PhD program)
at an accredited university or college at the time of the conference.
Due to the funding structure of the European Bioinformatics Institute applicants must be holding a passport issued by
a EU- or
EMBC-state to be eligible. These
Turkey and the
Recipients of an ISMB/ECCB 2007 travel fellowship sponsored by the ISCB are not eligible.
Successful applicants will be required to register for the ISCB Student Council Symposium and ISMB/ECCB 2007.
The deadline for fellowship recipients to register for the conference will be listed in the notification email.
Successful applicants are responsible for paying all expenses of attending the conference up front, including
conference registration fees. Checks will be presented at the symposium.
Successful applicants have to give the ISCB Student Council permission to use their name and photo in
promotion materials (printed and electronic).
Potential applicants who meet all conditions listed above need to complete the following steps no later than
June 8th (This deadline has not changed even though abstracts for the symposium can now be submitted until June 15th.):
We urge all potential applicants to confirm that they can afford the registration fee for ISMB/ECCB 2007 before
applying for the travel fellowship. Details on ISMB/ECCB 2007 registration fees can be found here.
Submit an abstract to the ISCB Student Council Symposium through the ISMB/ECCB 2007 submission system.
Send an email to including the following
Title and full list of authors of the submitted abstract.
A curriculum vitae (maximum of 2 pages) in PDF format clearly stating
nationality and program enrolled in.
Members of the ISCB Student Council Symposium Program Committee and
representatives from the European Bioinformatics Institute will select the winners based
on the submitted abstracts and CVs. Notifications will be send by email no later than June 20th.
Only successful applicants will be notified.
