About the Symposium [Top]
The ISCB Student Council is organizing the 3rd Student Council Symposium to be held on Saturday, July 21st, in parallel to the ISMB/ECCB
2007 tutorial sessions in Vienna, Austria. The Student Council Symposium is a forum for students and young researchers in the field of
computational biology. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work to an international audience, build a network within
the computational biology community and develop important soft skills in an environment that fosters exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Posters [Top]
Here's your chance to help the Student Council to promote the symposium. Print one (or all!) of our posters
and post it on the bulletin board of your department, on the door of your office or any other place where
plenty of students will see it.
We've created a color as well as a black-and-white version of each of our posters to suit your printer. Please
don't print the color version on a black-and-white printer - the poster will be really hard to read.
The posters are available in A4 format only. If the paper in your country comes in letter format make sure your PDF reader
scales the poster correctly before printing otherwise important information might get lost.
Please take the posters down after the symposium is over and recycle the paper. You'll be doing
everyone a favor.
Previous ISCB Student Council Symposia [Top]
2. ISCB Student Council Symposium at ISMB 2006 in Fortaleza, Brazil
The webpages for this symposium are still available here. Have a look at the photos!
The success of the symposium in 2005 encouraged the leadership of the ISCB Student Council to organize a
very similiar event as part of ISMB 2006 in Fortaleza, Brazil. Even though the symposium was held on the
same day as the tutorials of ISMB over 80 delegates registered for this event, which had a strong focus
on career-development and networking within the bioinformatics community. Keynote speakers
Phil Bourne, Reinhard Schneider and Julio Collado-Vides dedicated time to these issues in their keynote
presentations, while then-ISCB President Michael Gribskov discussed his vision of where computational biology is heading in the
21st century in his closing remarks.
Many students and young researchers used the opportunity to present their work at the event and submitted
more than 35 abstracts. The best 10 were selected for oral presentation, while a poster session allowed also the remaining
submitters to present their work. Awards were given to the authors of the best presentation and the
best poster. The day was closed by a social event in one of Fortaleza's best steakhouses, which was another
highlight of this very successful 2nd ISCB Student Council Symposium.
1. ISCB Student Council Symposium at ECCB 2005 in Madrid, Spain
The 1st ISCB Student Council Symposium was held on 28th of September immediately preceding ECCB 2005 in Madrid.
We initiated the review process of student abstracts and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of
abstracts submitted. We received over 60 abstracts in 7 different categories covering a wide range of topics within
computational biology. From these we selected 20 for oral presentation on the symposium and another 36 for poster
presentations at ECCB. For more information on the 1st International Student Council Symposium in Computational Biology
please visit http://www.eccb05.org/student.htm.
An evaluation of this event can be downloaded along with the corresponding questionnaire can be downloaded as PDFs: Evaluation,
Questionnaire.
